Kogi Pastor Allegedly Sets Wife Ablaze Over Burnt Clothes

A pastor identified as Jacob Irewa has been arrested by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, on fire following a domestic dispute in Lokoja.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja.

According to reports, the dispute began after Berida allegedly burnt some of her husband’s old clothes without his permission, believing that he no longer needed them.

Irewa was said to have become angry over the incident and allegedly drained fuel from his motorcycle, poured it on his wife and set her ablaze.

Neighbours reportedly rushed to the scene, rescued the woman and took her to Honey Gold Hospital in Felele, where she is receiving treatment for severe burns.

Following the incident, a surveillance team from the police B Division in Felele reportedly responded to the scene and arrested the pastor.

The suspect allegedly admitted to the act while in police custody.

He is expected to face prosecution for attempted culpable homicide after the completion of the police investigation.
